We are on week 3 of renovations, and it's amazing how different the building looks already! We are so excited to be moving into this space. We love the location right downtown and we had hopes that it could be turned into something really special. So far we have not been disappointed! We wanted to show you a few progress pictures of how things are coming along. And everyone knows you have to have the "before" shots to really get the full effect so enjoy, and let us know what you think! (Click on the pictures below to enlarge and read the captions.)
We’ve been able to talk to many of you about what Stitch Studio is going to be, but we wanted to give you, as our future customers and friends, a little peak into what we have planned for Stitch Studio. So here goes! First, and foremost, we want to be a creative and educational resource for our community. Yes- we do plan on having classes!!! We truly believe that whether you are sewing, knitting, crocheting, or quilting, it’s a lot more fun to do it with other people. Stitch Studio will offer a wide array of classes for all abilities. If you’ve never sewn or cast on a stitch before in your life- we can teach you! Have a bit of experience but want to try a new project? We can do that! Even if you’ve been sewing for years- we will have something for you! We do hope to get classes started as early as this summer and we will release those details as soon as possible.
Now for some of the more common questions we’ve heard:
Q: When are you opening?
A: Excellent question! And our best answer is before Tulip Festival. We would like to be open mid to late April so that we have a couple weeks to work out any kinks that go along with opening a new business before the Tulip Festival crowds arrive.
Q: Where will you be located?
A: We will be right downtown in the old Hands Around the World building! Super convenient, and you will be amazed at the transformation taking place in the building right now!
Q: Will you sell sewing machines?
A: We would love to sell sewing machines, but that is not in the plan for this stage of our business. It is a definite possibility down the road as we guage the interest though! But we will have 4 quality Viking sewing machines in the shop that can be used for classes if you don’t have a machine of your own.
Q: Will you service machines?
A: Again, not at this stage. But we do hope to find a resource in the community who can help you in that department and we can be a drop off and pick up site for that.
Q: What types of fabric will you carry?
A: We will carry a variety of cottons, including modern prints from Art Gallery, Moda, Riley Blake, Michael Miller, Robert Kaufman, and many other manufacturers. We also will carry a large selection of solids for your modern quilts, as well as batiks. And we have heard the request for other substrates, so we will have a selection of knits and voiles and a few other apparel type fabrics! Keep in mind that our selection is going to have to grow over time here at first. We think you will be able to find something you love though!
Q: What yarns will you carry?
A: We will be carrying a variety of yarn from Brown Sheep Company and Universal Yarns at first. We'll make sure we have all the standard weights in a variety of colors. Our inventory will grow over time and we will be looking at Rowan and Plymouth yarn companies as well as some other Midwestern sourced specialty yarns. We want to hear from our customers regarding favorite brands and styles. We also want to know what you want to learn.
We’re sure you have more questions- feel free to ask them in the comments and we will do our best to answer!
We are both so very excited for our creative baby to be born soon, and we hope you are too!
